about
Luke Kelly would have been 80 years old today, on the 17th of November 2020. In his memory here is our version of the last televised song Luke performed.
The Night Visiting Song is a Scottish ballad that first originated in Scottish songbooks in the late 18th century. Luke Kelly is said to have learnt the song from Archie and Ray Fisher. A regular on The Dubliners' live sets, The Night Visiting Song was the final track on their 1973 album "Double Dubliners." Shortly after successive surgeries on his brain tumor in June 1983, Kelly beautifully performed this song with the Dubliners at a pre-recorded show for RTÉ. The performance was aired in November later that year and was the last time Kelly was seen performing live, passing away in January 1984.
